Financial Guidance and Claims Bill

20 September 2017

Its main aim is to ensure that people across the UK are able to seek the help and advice they need to manage their finances. The main provisions of the Bill (in its current form) include to:

  • create a ‘single financial guidance body,’ whose name will be determined by regulations by the Secretary of State, by merging three existing government-sponsored financial and pension guidance services. The functions of the single financial guidance body will include pensions guidance, debt advice, money guidance and strategic function, as well as advising the Secretary of State in relation to those matters;
  • provide for funding of debt advice in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland;
  • transfer claims management regulation from the Claims Management Regulation Unit (of the Ministry of Justice) to the Financial Conduct Authority.
