Civil Liability (Amendment) Bill 2017

20 September 2017

Before the General Election in June, the Government had consulted on its proposals and had intended to address these in the Prison and Courts Bill.  However, this has been abandoned and the reforms are now to be included in the Civil Liability (Amendment) Bill 2017.

Whether these will have a smooth passage through Parliament is not clear, although given that it was a Labour MP who first proposed legislating against excessive whiplash claims, this could receive cross-party support, with the significantly reduced opposition inconsequential.
